Whether you are a zero-waste advocate or simply want to find ways to purify tap water to avoid plastic in your daily life, Binchotan charcoal is an ecological alternative to buying plastic water bottles.

It is a piece of charcoal obtained from the branches of Ubamegashi, an oak tree typical of southern Japan and renowned for its density. After cremation in a traditional oven, the charcoal obtained has purifying properties for water. This is activated carbon made in Wakayama, certified non-radioactive and without chemical treatment.

Using activated carbon in your water bottle allows you to drink pure drinking water in all circumstances. Whether you go to work or to the gym, the carbon filters the water in the bottle.

This activated carbon allows you to get rid of your plastic bottles. It is therefore an economical and ecological alternative. One stick of carbon has a lifespan of about 6 months.

Before handling your charcoal, wash your hands thoroughly. Then run the stick under cold tap water. You can also scrub it with a loofah sponge or a regular vegetable brush.

Boil water and immerse your charcoal in it for about 15 minutes to activate it. Take it out and let it dry, ideally on a grill in the sun if the weather is suitable or in the open air.

Only when it is dry can you put it in your water bottle to filter the drinking water. Eight hours are necessary for optimal purification, but we recommend leaving it in the water overnight.

PRECAUTIONS FOR USE

Never leave the Binchotan charcoal in the same water for more than 48 hours and only use it with drinking water.

If you do not need your activated carbon continuously, it is advisable to let it dry before storing it in a dry place. If you have not kept the original pouch, choose an airtight container (glass jar, storage box, etc.) for storage.
